After the big storm last night that knocked down a lot of trees citywide and postponed the Yankee Red Sox game, today’s sunshine and blue skies were a welcome change. Hundreds of people came out to Inwood Park this afternoon to enjoy a perfect early Summer day and the 24th annual Drums Along the Hudson Festival. As always, there were gorgeous handmade costumes, dreamcatchers, blankets, hats, jewelry and lots of other Native American crafts.

The music and dancing are always a major feature of this event, and this year’s was no exception. Brilliantly attired Thunderbird American Indian Dancers led festival goers in a big circle dance accompanied by the Heyna Second Sons drums. The ‘multicultural family-oriented festival combines Native American heritage with the diversity of New York City with performances of world dance and drumming tradition, featuring Kalpulli Huehuetlatolli Aztec Dancers and Drummers, Saung Budaya West Sumatran Dance, Feraba West African Rhythm and Tap, Parijat Desai Dance in the Round and more,’ per the organizers’ website.
