The Inwood Film Festival‘s in-person screenings at Columbia University’s Campbell Sports Center are over now, but the festival continues online for 2 more weeks. The annual event, now in its 11th year, was another triumph for local art impresario Aaron Simms, the Founder and Executive Director of Inwood Art Works. MC’ing the 4 day festival while keeping everything moving smoothly and on a tight schedule, Simms introduced the film blocks and led the Q&A’s with Directors that followed. All of the films have an Inwood connection: they were either made here, they’re about here, or they’re created by people who live here. This year’s program included several films made with the support of Inwood Art Works filmmakers grants.
The deep pool of artistic talent in this Northernmost Manhattan community is something Simms recognized years ago when the idea of an arts centered organization came to him. In the years since, Inwood Art Works has become a major presence in our City’s cultural life. Concerts, films al fresco on the River, live performances, and an ongoing interview series on YouTube are just some of IAW’s highlights. And now, as the Org steps into its 2nd Decade of promoting and supporting the Arts, it has a brand new Studio at the corner of W204th Street and Seaman Avenue.
