Just blocks away from the Marble Hill branch of Target department store, a man was shot by ICE in a botched arrest yesterday. According to multiple breaking news reports, the man was in a car with a 5 year old child when, around 4 PM, shots rang out. The location was on W225 Street just up the hill from Broadway and the busy #1 train station on that corner. According to reports, the man was bleeding on the ground when nearby NYPD officers rushed him to the Allen Pavilion in a police car. The police were not involved in the original operation, rather, they responded to the sound of gunshots according to NYPD.

Activists soon gathered near the site of the shooting and at the hospital. The shooting victim was treated and, according to news reports this morning, taken away in custody by ICE some hours later. Elected officials issued statements denouncing ICE recklessness and demanding the agents leave asap. Mayor Mamdani tweeted that he “will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.” He added that he will demand that President Trump end all ICE enforcement actions in the City.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a statement calling for an independent investigation of the incident and release of body cam footage. She also called on Target to stop allowing ICE to stage operations on their property saying it puts the entire community at risk.

Last night activists outside the Allen Pavilion and on W225th Street called upon ICE to get out of NYC. One of them told the Gazette that she’d heard about the shooting from her brother. He called her from Marble Hill around the time it happened and she headed right up to join the mobilization. She said he didn’t tell her any details and that this wasn’t the first time she’d come out to protest ICE. Many activists wore bandanas that covered much of their face.
