Inwood lost its landmark pizzeria and longtime (90 years) local business last week when the gate came down for the last time on Pizza Haven. Generations of kids enjoyed their after school slices and fed coins into video games there. MTA Operators from the BX12 would pop in between runs to grab a slice and use the facilities. And in the years before half a dozen other pizzerias opened within a few blocks of it, in Inwood ‘pizza‘ meant Pizza Haven. Those who knew and loved this joint will surely miss it, and the era it represented.
In a remarkable coincidence, another pizzeria just opened a few steps away from Pizza Haven. Broadway Hot Pizza offers slices, pies and much more at the SE corner of W207th Street and Broadway in the storefront that has seen a succession of food businesses come and go over the past several years.
