It is a great sadness to note the passing of longtime Inwood resident Mary Greene, on April 9, 2026.
Mary Dolores Greene.
Mary Dolores Greene (O’Neill), Age 81 yrs, of New York, NY, passed away on April 9th, after a 13-year battle with cancer.
Mary was born June 11th, 1944 in the Bronx, NY, the daughter of Peter and Martha Greene (nee Nisa)
Mary went to Mount St.Ursula Academy for high school and graduated with honors from Mercy college in 1966. She got a masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from NYU.
Mary married Jack O’Neill in April of 2009. Although Jack would pass away little more than a year later, in reality they were together for over 40 years.
Mary worked as a researcher for RCA, before making a career change and became a computer programmer for Drexel Burnham and later JP Morgan. Mary concluded her work life working in the endowments division of Columbia University.
Mary was especially committed to her faith, and lived the word daily as a member of the Good Shepherd parish community.
She was kind, smart, generous and charming.
Remaining to cherish Mary’s memory are step-children, Marie O’Neill-Folz and her husband Denis and Larry ONeill and his wife Christine; grandchildren, Christine Kingston and husband Steven, Shannon Nelson and husband Robert, and Anne Greco. Nieces and nephews, Maggie Weibe and her husband Vern, Michele Olsen and Sean Greene and his wife Jeanine. Mary was also blessed with twelve grandniece/nephews, and four great grandniece/nephews.
Preceding Mary in death are Jack O’Neill her husband, Bernadette Nelson her great granddaughter; Peter Greene and Martha Greene her parents, Phillip Greene and Peter Greene her brothers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday April 15th, 2026 from 3pm to 7 pm at Riverdale Funeral Home, at 5044 Broadway, New York, NY 10034.
Funeral/Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 16th at 10AM at Church of the Good Shepherd, 608 Isham St., New York, NY 10034.
Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne NY.
