Governor Hochul and Mayor de Blasio took to the airwaves this evening to update the City on a new Covid-19 variant called “Omicron.” Takeaway message: it’s here but we are in better shape now than a year ago because vaccines are available. Beyond that, the degree of contagion and lethality of the new variant are still unknown.
There are five known cases here so far and a link to an event at the Javits Center. The Governor reminded people to get their second shot of vaccine, a booster, or even their first dose if they’ve chosen to skip it so far. Covid cases are higher upstate where the vaccination rate is lower.
