There was pure eval today at the Met Cloisters, medieval that is. Knights, damsels, Kings and Queens strolled around the grounds as sword fights and jousts broke out on the green. Per a NYC Parks Department announcement some 60,000 people attended this year’s edition of Uptown’s annual Rite of Autumn, the Medieval Festival.
On hand were a number of local pols including Council Member Mark Levine and MN Boro President Gale Brewer along with the usual displays of swordplay and jousting. The turkey drumsticks that are the unofficial food of all things medieval were present in abundance. Various craftspeople displayed handmade goods of leather, wood, and metal. Meade and ale were available to wash down the medieval fare.
Everyone appeared to have a swell time, especially the little kids. Many attendees dressed for the occasion in period outfits, while others leaned more to punk, goth, faerie, S&M, or just Halloween style. One guy looked like he was auditioning for Men In Black.
