Hudson Guild Art

A line formed Tuesday night outside of Hudson Guild for the 26th Annual Community Art Jam. More than a hundred artists had answered the call for entries and were eagerly awaiting their turn to hang their work in the gallery inside 441 West 26th Street.

Jim Furlong, the Guild’s Director of Arts, sat behind a table upon which was placed a bowl filled with folded slips of paper. These numbered slips were picked one at a time by the awaiting artists, and the number they got determined the order in which they’d hang their entry. Anticipation was palpable as the artists awaited their turn. The artists were called up, by the number they’d drawn, to collect a hammer, a nail, and a small sticker with the artist’s name and title of the work. They then went across to the gallery and hung up their art for the Whole World to appreciate. Two Inwood artists are represented in the Community Art  Jam: Mario Tavares and David Ferrando.

(L-R) Maria Rodriguez; Natalie Nosworthy, “444 Thousand”; Lola Sandino Stanton, “Sheldon.”

Finding a spot.

Bill Stanton, “Afternoon Delight.”

Mario Tavarez, “Joy.”

David Ferrando, “Man of Sorrows.”

The Art Jam runs through November 23rd and, once again, is located at 441 West 26th Street. While you’re there, check out some of the other offerings at Hudson Guild.
