Representative Adriano Espaillat
Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in New York, led a delegation of Dominican officials to ring the closing bell at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York Times Square in honor of Dominican Heritage Month and Dominican Independence Day.
“As the first Dominican American to ever serve in the United States Congress, I am proud to recognize Dominican Independence Day once again at NASDAQ, coming together in celebration of our culture, heritage, and the significant economic impact that Dominican Americans make throughout the diaspora and the United States,” said Espaillat.
Dominican Americans are the fourth largest Latino population in the United States and represent one of the highest average rates of growth of household income per-capita of any major racial and ethnic group in the nation over the last 20 years. With a growing presence in communities around the nation, it remains vital that Dominican Americans and individuals of Dominican descent have an opportunity to let their voices be heard on the issues and concerns facing our communities, including the national economy, business market, and trade.
“Today’s event is truly extraordinary, as we reflect on our achievement, growth, and diversity, while realizing our social, economic, and cultural impact to the fabric of America. We look forward to working with NASDAQ to assist on the enforcements of trade agreements that cultivate new and exciting opportunities for American businesses throughout local markets, the growing Dominican diaspora, and around the world,” Espaillat concluded.
Immigration is a driving force to our nation’s economy and plays an integral role in major U.S. companies. The iconic bell ringing ceremony at the NASDAQ MarketSite represents an enormous opportunity to showcase Dominican culture and achievements on the milestone of Dominican Independence Day before a global audience.
