More than a hundred people walked around Good Shepherd parish in observance of Good Friday this week. The annual Inwood tradition included stops along the way to commemorate the Stations of the Cross. The procession began at Good Shepherd School on Isham Street. It crossed Broadway and then went down Vermilyea Avenue to Academy Street. Heading West, it crossed Broadway again and went up to Seaman Avenue and then back to Isham Street. Most of the participants then entered the church to continue the Good Friday service.
A black minivan with a pair of roof-mounted loudspeakers led the way, followed by altar boys, a person carrying a large cross, a priest and several women in burgundy gowns. Behind them walked around hundred people who sometimes paused to kneel in prayer along the way. A squad of Auxiliary Police augmented the contingent of scooter mounted NYPD officers from the 34. Vehicle traffic was held briefly at intersections along the way as the procession passed.
