Contemporary feminist artist, Gulsum Keskinoglu, showcases subjects and objects related to sociological, political, and conventional pressures women face on a daily basis.
New York City artist, Gulsum Keskinoglu, was born in 1989 in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. The artist studied at Isparta Anatolian Fine Art High School Department of Painting and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mugla Faculty, in Bodrum, of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture. While participating in various national group exhibitions, Gulsum expanded her studio expertise with ceramic artist, Tevfik Turen Karagozoglu, in Bodrum. This experience launched Gulsum’s first solo exhibition in Bodrum, in 2015.
Gulsum continues to define her artistic platform by pushing and redefining boundaries. While embracing the expression she discovered living in America, the artist merges her two world: growing up in Turkey surrounded by religious and cultural boundaries and living in New York City. Since 2014, Gulsum transcends the International Art World.
Whether its incorporating sculpture and ceramic art that relies heavily upon a Turkish upbringing, painting integrated dots on canvas and on paper that illustrates vulvas, women detailed body or weaving 100,000 needles and transparent linoleum. The artist’s gallery showings tell a story of boundaries women are held to because of the emotional state of mind that comes from living in a restrictive society. In 2019, the artist transcended the New York art scene.
In May Gulsum opened in her first solo exhibition at New York Superfine Art Fair. In October, she participated in a group show at the Soho Art Show. In December the artist held her first solo gallery at Dacia Gallery and participated in the exhibition “Artifacts 2019. The shows were a huge success as Gulsum continues to create her politically charged sculptures and paintings. The international artist continues to exhibit in various shows, individually and collectively.
