The Supreme Court’s decision this week to revoke a Woman’s Right to Choose when to have children was not unexpected. Weeks ago a purported draft of the ruling was leaked and the subsequent announcement of an investigation into that leak implicitly confirmed its veracity.

Nevertheless, many Americans were taken aback when the official announcement was finally issued. They hit the streets on Friday afternoon in cities across the country and additional mobilizations were expected to take place over the weekend.

Here in NYC activists gathered in Union Square where they heard from a number of speakers before heading West on 14th Street and on down 5th Avenue to Washington Square. The group staged a half-hour long, nonviolent sit-in near 8th Street before filing into the Park to continue their rally. More acivists kept streaming into the Park from the 6th Avenue side until sunset when the rally began to disperse.

The Gazette accompanied the protest as it wound its way across 14th Street and down 5th Avenue. Here are a few photos from the mobilization:
