Throngs of ghoul and goblin aficionados filled downtown sidewalks tonight to take in the annual Village Halloween Parade. It’s a New York City tradition and a reminder that, in this City of Immigrants, diversity really is our strength. The enormous variety of costumes, floats, and music was very creative and reflected that. Packed like sardines on both sides of 6th Avenue, the parade viewers even waited somewhat patiently for a long time before the first marchers finally appeared. But from that moment on, it was pure fun for everyone. Marchers interacted with the people watching them, stopping to pose for photos, take selfies with them, or act out a gory little charade with their bloody prop chainsaw or dagger. All in all, great costumes, very decent, mostly not freezing weather, and lots of free fun for all.
