Today marked three years since Russian troops invaded Ukraine, their neighbor to the West. Unimaginable death and destruction ensued with no end in sight. Now, following the change in American leadership, America’s support for Ukraine appears to be about to end. In his debate last September with Vice President Kamala Harris, President Donald Trump declared that ending the war would be easy for him and that he’d do it even before taking office. That didn’t happen, but he’s signaled that he intends to end it now by forcing terms favorable to Russia and USA on Ukraine. He’s called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskya Dictator without Elections‘ and said Ukraine should have never started it (the war). Today the USA joined Russia, North Korea, Iran in voting against a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression toward Ukraine and calling for the return of Ukrainian territory. It passed overwhelmingly.

Against that background, several hundred pro-Ukraine activists gathered in Times Square this Monday evening. They chanted, sang, waved flags, prayed and performed theater. They carried signs condemning Russia, Putin and Trump. One sign said ‘Ukraine’s Not for Sale‘ while another featured a Banksyesque caricature of Trump holding aloft a sign reading ‘I Sold Out Ukraine.’
