Former President Donald Trump gave a victory speech in Florida last night after winning enough Electoral College votes to become the 47th President. Having lost in 2020 his win was an historic comeback. His opponent, VP Kamala Harris, called to congratulate him today and later addressed a crowd of her disappointed supporters. Trump’s win was the highlight of an Election Day that also saw the Republican Party on track to keeping the House of Representatives Majority and to retake the Senate’s. Locally, Harris won NY State‘s 28 Electoral votes and every NYC Borough except Staten Island. She won 80% of the vote here in Manhattan, but just 35% on Staten Island. With 3 states still counting, Trump has 291 EC votes to Harris’ 226 with 270 needed to win. President Biden also called President-Elect Trump to congratulate him and offer a White House meeting to ensure a smooth transition, according to Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung.
