The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for New York City until 11:00 PM on 7/17.
Today’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecast to reach Level Orange (AQI between 101-150) – Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups and may be unhealthy for those sensitive to air pollution (older adults over 65 or children younger than 14, pregnant individuals, outdoor workers, and those with medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or respiratory issues such as asthma). The risk of air quality-related health impacts from outdoor activities remains low for healthy people.
Recommended Actions:
Sensitive Groups: Reduce strenuous outdoor activities. Take extra breaks when outdoors. Monitor for symptoms related to air quality, such as coughing or shortness of breath. Sensitive individuals should follow management plans for health conditions. If you have asthma or a chronic lung condition, keep your quick-relief medicine on-hand.
