The historic criminal trial of former President Donald Trump concluded tonight with a guilty verdict on all 34 felony charges he faced. A jury of twelve New Yorkers was unanimous in finding that Trump falsified New York business records in order to conceal his illegal scheme to corrupt the 2016 election that he went on to win.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. said, “Donald Trump is guilty of repeatedly and fraudulently falsifying business records in a scheme to conceal damaging information from American voters during the 2016 presidential election. Over the course of the past several weeks, a jury of 12 every day New Yorkers was presented with overwhelming evidence – including invoices, checks, bank statements, audio recordings, phone logs, text messages, and direct testimony from 22 witnesses – that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Trump illegally falsified 34 New York business records. Mr. Trump went to illegal lengths to lie repeatedly in order to protect himself and his campaign. In Manhattan, we follow the facts without fear or favor and have a solemn responsibility to ensure equal justice under the law regardless of the background, wealth or power of the accused. The integrity of our judicial system depends on upholding that principle.”
Convicted felon Donald Trump issued a statement following the jury’s unanimous guilty verdict on all 34 charges against him. “This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt. It’s a rigged trial, a disgrace. They wouldn’t give us a venue change. We were at 5% or 6% in this district, in this area. This was a rigged, disgraceful trial.”
Justice Juan Merchan scheduled sentencing for July 11th. Each of the 34 felony charges carries up to a $5,000 fine and four-year prison sentence, according to a CBS News report. Following today’s verdict, the former President’s motorcade wound its way through rush hour traffic on the Northbound FDR and headed West to his namesake Tower on 5th Avenue and East 56th Street. According to a Media Advisory received by the Gazette, Trump “will deliver Remarks in New York, New York, on Friday, May 31st, 2024, at 11:00AM EDT.”
Location: Trump Tower, 725 5th Avenue.
