As part of his NYC visit ahead of tomorrow’s Dominican Day Parade downtown, the Dominican Republic’s President, Luis Abinader, came up to Inwood today. Inwood Little League was established in 1950, making it Manhattan’s oldest.

The League’s headquarters is on West 204th Street.

In light of the Dominican Republic‘s domination of MLB and of this community’s ties to that island nation, the league’s showcase Field 6 was a logical choice for Abinader’s itinerary. Joining the President today was Representative Adriano Espaillat, who is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, along with the coaches and young ballplayers of Inwood Little League.

Representative Espaillat welcomes Dominican President Abinader to Field 6.

President Abinader was surrounded by players as they gathered on the infield grass and he tried on caps from each team. He asked them to shout out their hometown on the island and they did so enthusiastically.

Good times.

Abinader then took to the mound as Espaillat strode to the plate. He fired one right down Broadway for a called strike.

Ace.

The League presented President Abinader a special uniform jersey with his name and number on the back and the League’s logo on the front.

Numero Uno.
