Around these parts the Awards for Best Theatrical Anything will always go to In the Heights, Bring It On, and Hamilton, but once a year we’re reminded that there were some other shows on Broadway too. This year is no different in that sense. The annual Tony Awards will again honor the great artistic achievements of our town’s Broadway theaters. Big difference this year: they’ll honor them up here, in the Heights. Thanks to the hard work of United Palace CEO Mike Fitelson and Lin Manuel Miranda and countless others the awards ceremony will take place here tomorrow night. Exciting!
Preparations were well underway Saturday afternoon, and the streets all around the United Palace were buzzing with activity. By sundown today the preparations will be complete and Broadway’s biggest stars will join the the sound designers, directors, composers, choreographers, et al, who make these shows go on night after night, bringing joy to millions of theater fans and millions of dollars to our great City. Bravo! Kudos! Take a bow, United Palace and all those who made this amazing night possible.
