A Gazette Editorial
Exactly two years ago, a twice impeached, defeated president’s weeks of nonstop lies about massive election fraud led to a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol. But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what one of that defeated President’s biggest suck ups in Washington had to say about it:
“There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day. The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president. And their having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole which the defeated president kept shouting into the largest megaphone on planet Earth.
“The issue is not only the president’s intemperate language on January 6th. It is not just his endorsement of remarks in which an associate urged “trial by combat.” It was also the entire manufactured atmosphere of looming catastrophe; the increasingly wild myths about a reverse landslide election that was being stolen in some secret coup by our now-President.
“I defended the President’s right to bring any complaints to our legal system. The legal system spoke. The Electoral College spoke. As I stood up and said clearly at the time, the election was settled.
“But that reality just opened a new chapter of even wilder and more unfounded claims.
“The leader of the free world cannot spend weeks thundering that shadowy forces are stealing our country and then feign surprise when people believe him and do reckless things.”
We know what happened that day and who made it happen. And yet, the instigator is still at it. Almost every single day, and often more than once a day, the Gazette gets email messages from that instigator. He’s still lying his ass off and trying to light fires that’ll burn this country to the ground because all he cares about is himself. That’s why he tried to blow up our centuries-long tradition of peaceful transitions. That’s why he’s brought bullshit legal action after bullshit legal action to deny and delay Justice while wastefully tying up our Courts’ resources. He doesn’t care about the people at his hate rallies, the people in Congress, or even the Constitution. Only and always just himself.
This was him just a few weeks ago:
“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”
How dare he? And how dare his pathetic ass kissers in the Republican Party call themselves “patriots” and “Constitutional Conservatives”? He, and they, have nothing but contempt for the Will of the People. They pretend to not understand that the candidate with the most votes wins…unless it’s them. “Heads I win, tails you lose” used to be a joke aimed at cheaters like these men and women. Now it’s literally their policy. There are still Republicans denying their loss last November. And, of course, the Biggest Bullshitter of All still claims he won TWO YEARS AGO.
We don’t get it. In any normal country if you lead a failed coup d’etat they lock you up or worse. Here, dozens of foot soldiers have already been sentenced to long prison terms for what they did on that day two years ago. But the man who led the failed coup d’etat remains free. Maybe this will be the year he finally pays a price for his deplorable acts against the United States of America. We certainly hope so.
