Larimar is a beautiful blue stone found exclusively in the Dominican Republic. It gets its distinctive color from copper that mixed with limestone during volcanic eruptions a long time ago. Today these lovely rocks are polished and fashioned into pendants, rings, and necklaces. In the old section of Santo Domingo, the Colonial Zone, there’s a small museum dedicated to this unique rock, El Museo del Larimar.

A sign posted inside the museum tells visitors that, “larimar is volcanic in nature and has evolved from a hot, fiery source, yet it is the coolest, softest blue imaginable. From this stone we can learn how to cool down the fire energy within ourselves and how to calm burning emotions such as anger, frustration, lust and greed. Larimar works wonders in transmitting raging rivers of red anger into blue reservoirs of personal peace.”
