The Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo, Capital of the Dominican Republic, is where you’ll find the 24th Annual Feria International del Libro (International Book Fair) this week. It’s a free event where visitors can find a big selection of books of all types, as well as other arts including poetry, music, crafts and dance. The Ballet Folklórico Nacional Dominicano performed a colorful and energetic set on the afternoon that the Gazette popped by. In addition to lots of books, there are plenty of gallerias de arte to explore in the Zona Colonial, not to mention many lovely cafes, bistros, rooftop bars, parks and historical landmarks. If you’re around the Capital don’t miss this week-long event. It runs everyday through Monday, May 2nd.
