This past Tuesday Rep. Adriano Espaillat joined Reps. Nydia M. Velázquez, Hakeem Jeffries, Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler, Yvette Clarke, Grace Meng, and Richie Torres in City Hall Park for a news conference highlighting the recent passage of the Build Back Better Act and impact for New York’s working families.
Espaillat called the bill, “a big effing deal” echoing then-Vice President Biden‘s hot mic characterization of the ACA. The BBB includes funding for a significant number of Section 8 vouchers and a major investment in NYCHA. There’s also money for Phase Two of the Second Avenue Subway that will extend the existing line to 125th Street. The bill provides work authorization and protection from deportation for millions of undocumented immigrants as well. “The Senate has to come through for us, and we know they will,” Espaillat declared.
Torres: “We’re on the verge of building back better, and as NYC goes, so goes the nation.”
Clarke: “I’m giving thanks to Biden-Harris for this transformational investment.”
Meng: “Let’s get this through the Senate ASAP.”
Maloney: “Best thing to come to NYC in a long time.”
Nadler: “This is Biden campaign fulfillment.”
Velázquez: “This bill is for you.”
Jeffries: “Lower cost of life-saving drugs.”
