Mayoral Hopeful

September 8, 2020

Comptroller Scott Stringer threw his hat into the ring and announced his campaign for NYC Mayor today in Inwood Hill Park. In addition to his wife and 2 kids, Stringer was joined by a number of elected officials offering their hearty endorsements. Among them were State Senators Robert Jackson, Jessica Ramos, Alessandra Biaggi, Julia Salazar and Assemblymembers Yuh-Line Niou, Catalina Cruz, and Al Taylor. Stringer said he’d work with Albany officials to fix City issues, pointed out the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on POC and Latino communities (Stringer lost his own Mom, Arlene, to the pandemic here in April), said he’d end unaffordable affordable housing, tax the Rich, and reminded everyone once again that he grew up around here. The campaign announcement was attended by around two dozen journalists, including from a couple of TV stations, who asked him questions about ranked choice voting among other topics. Following the news briefing, Stringer and his family headed up Seaman Avenue towards Indian Road on foot.
