Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), in collaboration with New York City and New York State elected officials, the City of New York Department of Sanitation and community organizations, announced a new project “Clean Up Your Block,” a series of weekly cleanup events targeting neighborhoods in Inwood, Washington Heights, Hamilton Heights, East Harlem, Central Harlem and the Northwest Bronx.
“Clean Up Your Block” will designate a map of targeted streets throughout New York’s 13th congressional district and will provide cleaning supplies and resources that participating volunteers may pick up from access points along the route.
“My office has received dozens of complaints, and this weekend, we will begin working with New York City and state officials to clean up neighborhoods throughout my district and to help keep families safe,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). “We all have noticed the trash piling up and spilling onto community sidewalks and streets. Sanitation is critical to the safety and health of our city and we each have a role to play. Starting this weekend, I will be holding cleanup events in my district and doing our part to help keep families safe and our neighborhoods clean.
“This cleanup effort involves each of us and we are calling on all local businesses and residents throughout the community to join us to take action and to each do their part to make a difference in our neighborhoods. I’m calling on business owners and residents, families and volunteers and hope that we can count on them to join us this Saturday to make a difference,” he concluded.
Starting Saturday, August 8th and running weekly through the month of August, this project will be structured in a series of phases, one per each neighborhood starting with Washington Heights and Inwood for Phase One that will target 207th Street and Broadway, Dyckman Street and Broadway, 181st Street and Broadway, 181st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, and 157th Street and Broadway – Project “Clean Up Your Block” will kick-off at 207th Street and Broadway, New York, NY beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
Social distancing will be strongly implemented due to adhere to CDC public health guidelines and safety, the City and our office will provide the necessary PPE for this operation.
