The Public Theater
One of The Public Theater’s programs, Public Works aims to restore and build community by connecting people through theater. Working with partner organizations in all five boroughs, they invite community members to take classes, attend performances, and join in the creation of ambitious works of participatory theater, such as their production of TWELFTH NIGHT.
Adapted with music and lyrics by Shaina Taub, this Shakespeare classic hit The Delacorte stage twice. Enjoy the clips below from the 2016 and the 2018 productions.
Directed by current Young Vic Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah, the 2016 production ran for four performances over the course of Labor Day weekend. Fun Fact: Over 1,440 Mardi Gras necklaces were used in the show.
Added into the Free Shakespeare in the Park season and co-directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Oskar Eustis, this 2018 production ran the course of five weeks, alternating between two casts of community members. Fun Fact: The cast recording is available online at Amazon, Apple Music, and Spotify.
While the stages are dark, the rehearsal rooms quiet, and the gathering spaces empty, please continue to connect with us, engage with us, and, if you have the means, continue to support and stand with us. We are all One Public.
The Public Is Theater Of, By, and For All People.
