Official selections for the 5th Annual Inwood Film Festival were announced tonight at Indian Road Café. Aaron Simms, Founder and Executive Producer of Inwood Art Works, led the ceremonies with a recap of the festival’s quantifiable accomplishments to date including: 3600+ visitors, 80 women and under-represented filmmakers, 50 volunteers, 44 world premiers, 42 unique programs, 38 screenings, 13 days of professional film, 12 student films presented, 5 educational seminars, and “1 vision achieved for celebrating and showcasing Inwood and its surrounding community through the moving image.”
He then recited the festival program (which begins Friday, March 13, 2020, and runs all weekend) and recognized the filmakers behind the selected works, many of whom were in attendance. The film festival will return to the Campbell Sports Center located in Inwood at 218th Street and Broadway where it has been held since 2017. In addition to the film screenings, the IFF will be hosting 3 seminars: Sound Design for Documentary Filmmaking, Filmmaking A to Z and Digital Animation for Kids. Film Festival attendees and filmmakers will have the opportunity to connect before and after screenings in the Red-Carpet Community Room and through post feature conversations after select screenings.
The festival kicks off on Friday, March 13th with an opening night benefit featuring a special presentation of the Past, Present, and Future of the Inwood Film Festival, screening of award-winning shorts from previous years, an exclusive preview of our 5th
anniversary festival, special guest interviews with the inaugural Inwood Filmmaker Fund grantees, and a special “state of the arts address” with a look to the future of the arts in Inwood with a special announcement from Inwood Art Works.
Tickets for the opening night benefit ($85 – $125), Festival Passes ($50), Single Tickets ($15) and Seminar Tickets/Sign-Up are now available online. A special discount promo code for local students is available with proof of current, valid student ID emailed to info@inwoodartworks.nyc.
