The uptown landmark Capitol Restaurant on Broadway and W207 Street has closed. Veteran Capitol staffer Greg told the Gazette that it was sold and that there are plans for it to reopen, “with souvlaki and everything.”
Those of us who’ve supported and loved this unpretentious neighborhood cafe over the last several decades are devastated by the loss. Greg plans to take a well deserved vacation, finally. The Gazette wants to thank Greg and the team for their immeasurable contribution to the Inwood community and to wish them all the best. We miss them already!
To go….
Update: As of 3PM Tuesday, the Capitol was still open. Upon investigation the Gazette confirmed that it has been sold and the new owner plans to reopen in the future.
Update 2: At 1 PM Wednesday the Capitol was still open. Capitol staff had informed the Gazette on Monday that they’d be closing as of that evening, with the possibility of a future reopening by the new owners.
Update 3: Saturday. They’ve closed.
