Taking Charge of Change, an exhibition and fundraising auction for Inwood Art Works featuring painting, drawing, works on paper, collage, printmaking, photography, mixed media, and illustration from emerging and established artists in Inwood and Washington Heights. Art can viewed and bid on throughout the exhibition period only at the gallery from Friday, June 1 to Saturday June 30.

Gaelic Field in Inwood Hill Park
New York, NY —- Announcing the second annual season of Inwood Art Works’ FREE outdoor summer cinema series Film Works Alfresco! This curated film series focus foremost on presenting independent and popular films with local relevance that culturally resonate with the Northern Manhattan community. Eleven free screenings will occur consecutively every Monday evening at dusk at Gaelic Field in Inwood Hill Park from June 4 through August 27 (including two rain dates) in 2018. Come early and enjoy special pre-show music and theatrical entertainment by local artists!
Film Works Alfresco is New York City’s only English and Spanish language free outdoor cinema series. This important film program expands public access to professional filmmaking in Northern Manhattan, and presents as diverse an array of films as the community it serves. The Film Works Alfresco is produced by Inwood Art Works, Aaron Simms, Founding Executive Producer.
EXHIBITION SCHEDULE AND FILM INFORMATION
Swing Time – Monday, June 4, 2018 – 103 minutes. Musical Comedy in English with Spanish subtitles (1936, USA). Appropriate for Families and Young Adult. Pre-show entertainment in partnership withNorthern Manhattan Arts Alliance presents a Free Instructional Dance Class with Harlem One Stop at 7:30pm. In the case of inclement weather, the pre-show & screening will be moved indoors to Culture Hub at 440 West 202nd Street.
Swing Time is often named as the best or most popular musical/romance of dancing duo Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. The film’s most indelible image is that of Fred Astaire, immaculately attired in top hat and tails, hopping a freight car–a perfect encapsulation of the film’s Depression-era cheekiness. The Jerome Kern-Dorothy Fields score includes such standards-to-be as “Pick Yourself Up,” “A Fine Romance,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Never Gonna Dance” and “Bojangles of Harlem.”
Tres Idiotas – Monday, June 11, 2018 – 106 minutes. Romantic Comedy in Spanish with English subtitles (2017, Mexico). Appropriate for Families and Young Adult. The three friends, all engineering students, go through unforgettable times together during their wild school days, forging a strong bond which proves capable of withstanding even the most unexpected obstacles!

One day she ran away with a troupe of dwarves, and became a legend. Set in southern Spain in 1920s, Blancanieves is a moving, eerie, and fascinating and black-and-white silent film.
Bad News Bears – Monday, June 25, 1976 – 102 minutes. Dramatic Comedy in English with Spanish subtitles. (1976, USA). Appropriate for Older Children and Young Adult. Arrugas (Wrinkles) – Monday, July 2, 2017 – 89 minutes. Animated Drama in Spanish with English subtitles. (2011, USA). Appropriate for Families and Young Adult. Pre-show music performance by The Bridgeport Jazz Trio at 7:30pm.
Based on the award-winning graphic novel by Pablo Roca, Arrugas (Wrinkles) revolves around the friendship between two elderly men, one showing signs of the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, in an elderly care facility. Arrugas is an amusing, empathetic, and poignant look of how society addresses the human decline.
The Dark Crystal – Monday, July 9, 2018 – 93 minutes. Fantasy in English with Spanish subtitles (1982, USA). Appropriate for Children and Young Adult. Pre-show puppet performance by Eric Taylor and Katrina Denny from The Puppet Kitchen at 8:00pm.
On another planet in the distant past, a Gelfling embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of a magical crystal, and so restore order to this world. Jim Henson and company create a fantastic adventure film with ground-breaking animatronics and effects that take the viewer through an epic imaginative journey.
A Dog’s Purpose – Monday, July 16, 2018 – 100 minutes. Comedy in English with Spanish subtitles. (2017, USA). Appropriate for Families and Young Adult. Pre-show music performance by the Don Slatoff Jazz Trio at 7:30pm.
Based on the best-selling novel, A Dog’s Purpose shares the soulful and surprising story of one devote dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.
El Angel Exterminador (The Exterminating Angel) – Monday, July 23, 2018 – 95 minutes. Surreal Comedy in Spanish with English subtitles (1962, Mexico). Appropriate for Young Adult. Pre-show theatrical performance of Urbano’s Circus created by Richard Grunn begins at 7:30pm.

King Kong – Monday, August 13, 2018 – 104 minutes. Horror Adventure in English with Spanish subtitles. (1933, USA). Appropriate for Young Adult. Pre-show music performance by mezzo-soprano Laura Virellaat 7:00pm.
A film crew goes to “Skull Island” for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal ape who takes a shine to their female blonde star. He is then captured and brought to New York City for public exhibition as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”

Gaelic Field is located near the salt marsh in Inwood Hill Park and is accessible by entry at Isham Street and at 218th Street.

INWOOD ART WORKS creates and curates professional performing and visual arts in Inwood and its surrounding community. Through its Film Works (Inwood Film Festival, Film Works Alfresco), Art Works (Gallery), and Stage Works (Culture Hub, Back Porch Show) programs it encourages positive social engagement, goodwill, and unity through live theater, music, dance, film, new media, and visual arts within accessible proximity at affordable prices or free of charge.
AARON SIMMS is a New Yorker from Cincinnati. Among his credits, he has company managed the acclaimed Off Broadway runs of Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical Experience, Small Mouth Sounds, andWrestling Jerusalem. He has worked at Maximum Entertainment Productions, Snug Harbor Productions, Richards/Climan, Inc., Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Realm, DR Theatrical Management, and ICM Partners. He is a founding member of Northern Manhattan Arts and Culture, and the Founding Executive Producer of Inwood Art Works. In addition, he is a union member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, and I.A.T.S.E. He holds a B.A. in Theater from Butler University, and an M.F.A. in Theater Management & Producing from Columbia University.
