Taking Charge of Change

Inwood Art Works is pleased to invite emerging and established Inwood and Washington Heights artists to submit artwork for our upcoming exhibition and auction on the theme: Taking Charge of Change.

Taking Charge of Change is a local artist exhibition and fundraising auction for Inwood Art Works at Culture Hub, a pop-up community arts center at 440 West 202 Street from June 1-30, 2018.

This will be a group exhibition comprised of works of two-dimensional art open to current or former Inwood and Washington Heights visual artists. The work can be of any subject matter, as long as it is by an Inwood/Washington Heights artist. Painting, drawing, works on paper, collage, printmaking, photography, mixed media, illustration that fits on an 8 x 10” canvas or hard board (size must be inclusive of image area, margin, and borders). This is a non-traditional space and works may be exhibited in salon style. There is no fee to enter.

GUIDELINES

All artists must submit work according to the guidelines to be included in the exhibition and auction, which will take place at Inwood Art Works Culture Hub, 440 West 202 Street from June 1-30, 2018.

Artists may submit one (1) original work which will be donated for auction. To be included in the exhibit, work must fall within the theme, meet required size, and submit a completed entry form on or before May 5, 2018. Entry forms may be downloaded at www.inwoodartworks.nyc

A complimentary 8 x 10” Masonite panel is available for pick-up from Inwood Art Works. Artists may also use their own canvas/materials. Entries must be made either on Masonite-backed canvas, your own canvas, stiff board, or paper mounted on board. Loose works on paper cannot be included. All works must be unframed, and will be installed with hook, pin, or removable, non-staining adhesive attached directly to back.

AUCTION

Artworks from artists age 18 and over will be offered for auction beginning at $50. Artworks from artists age 17 and under will be offered for auction beginning at $25. Art may be viewed and bid on throughout the exhibition period only at the gallery and will end on Saturday, June 30 at 5pm.

The artist chooses to donate 50% or 100% of the purchase price to Inwood Art Works, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit arts organization. All proceeds directly support Inwood Art Works programming. Inwood Art Works mission is to create and curate professional performing and visual arts in Inwood and its surrounding community. Through its Film Works(Inwood Film Festival, Film Works Alfresco), Art Works (Inwood Art Works Gallery), and Stage Works (Back Porch Show) programs, Inwood Art Works encourages positive social engagement, goodwill, and unity through live theater, music, dance, film, new media, and visual arts within accessible proximity at affordable prices or free of charge.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To submit send to submissions@inwoodartworks.nyc the following:

• Please send Entry Form in .pdf format:
• Please send image of submitted label as such: Last name, First Name, Title of Work. Please submit image file as .jpg file no larger than 72 dpi. Images should be at least 600 pixels but not greater than 1200 pixels in any direction.

EVENT SCHEDULE

May 5 Submission Deadline
May 14 Notification of Acceptance
May 26 Hand delivery of work, 10am-6m. Shipped work must arrive by May 24, 2018.
June 1 Exhibition opens, reception from 7:00-10:00pm.

NOTIFICATION

Artists will be notified regarding the acceptance of their work to the gallery via email by May 14, 2018.

DELIVERY

Please deliver your work, unwrapped and ready for installation, to Inwood Art Works Culture Hub at 440 West 202 Street, New York, NY 10034 on Saturday, May 26 from 10am-6pm. If you are shipping your work, it must arrive no later than Friday, May 26 at 97 Park Terrace West, NY, NY 10034.

• Work must be ready to hang (exhibition ready).
• Artwork must be labeled on back of work, which includes: Name of artist, address, email, title of work, medium,
and dimensions). Example: Untitled, Jane Smith, 55 Park Terrace West, New York, NY 10034, jsmith@gmail.com,
“My amazing work”, Oil on Canvas, 8×10.
• Artist is responsible for delivery of artwork to and from event location.

REMOVAL

Please note, any work that does not sell will need to be picked up from the site after the close of the exhibition. Inwood Art Works is not responsible for returning works. In the case that a work does not sell, we will notify participants and provide a one-week timeframe to pick up work. Any work not claimed and picked up after that time will be considered abandoned property, unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. If you need to have your work mailed back, please make sure to include a self-address, stamped envelope large enough and safe for its return.
