An exterior lamp from atop the facade of the 207th Street McDonalds came crashing down onto the sidewalk this afternoon. Fortunately, the fixture landed on the sidewalk and not on somebody’s head. The fallen lamp was approximately the size and shape of a small window air conditioner. One person was injured in the incident and transported by EMS. No details were available from police or EMS on scene, but a witness stated the injured was a young male.
Mike, a street vendor who was working nearby, said that the lamp got caught up in the adjacent McDonalds flag and then ripped out of its moorings by a strong gust of wind. He speculated that a direct hit upon a pedestrian would have been fatal. As the ambulance pulled away a small puddle of blood remained on the pavement outside the restaurant.
