This week in Myrtle Beach, SC, a local man out on home detention was re-arrested after ditching his GPS bracelet in the Intracoastal Waterway. If he’d been initially collared for shoplifting, joyriding, or even drugs, a big “so what?” would be in order.
However, this fellow had been grabbed last November for making a bomb threat. And when he was picked up this week ATF and local law enforcement reportedly discovered ingredients for making pipe bombs in the house where he was re-arrested.
A few questions come to mind. Would this have been a bigger story if the man’s name was Mohammad and he hailed from an Arabic speaking country? Would Mohammad have even been released on house arrest in the first place? Would high profile politicians and pundits have flogged the story to death in order to justify the latest crackdown? Would they call it terrorism? What do you think?
