About a thousand people came out this afternoon to protest the Trump Administration’s “Muslim Ban” and demonstrate their support for tolerance and inclusion. Speakers, who included Russell Simmons and Susan Sarandon, invoked the diversity of New York City as an example of America at her best.
“Today, I am a Muslim too” protest organizer Rabbi Marc Schneier put the current immigration policy in context by recalling Jewish refugees who fled Europe during WWII only to be turned away upon reaching the USA. “Never again!” he declared. Several other religious, organized labor, and political leaders also addressed the crowd.
The protest took place over several blocks on Broadway between West 48th Street and West 52nd on an unusually warm and sunny February afternoon with temperatures in the mid 60’s.
